Here's a contest that no-one should have an excuse for not participating in:
Design your own Hasbro Zoid!
The Rules:
1. Pictures created for this contest are for this contest only. If they appear on websites it MUST be made clear that they are edits, and if they appear on eBay as supposedly legitimate items...well, let's just hope that doesn't happen.
2. It is recommended that the Zoid shown on the box is not a standard release model as this will be reflected in the score. The more impressive the better - it can be recoloured, modded or even one of your own customs.
3. The box picture must be a zoid. This goes without saying really.
4. Keep it clean. No dirty references in the name please.
5. Only one entry per person.
Scoring
The boxes will be rated in accordance with:
Originality - How original is the design? (out of 10)
Neatness - is it neatly put together? (out of 10)
Credibilty - Does it look like something you'd see in a shop? (out of 10)
So that's a total of 30 points.
The Mods and admins will be casting the votes and as such are not allowed to post entries.
All entries are to be received by midnight on Wednesday the 8th December - entries received after this date will not be accepted.
You can mail your entries to Phenotype: Phenotype@abstraktsystem.com
A short guide can be found below for those of you who need help getting to grips with the idea of box making.
So what are you waiting for? Good luck!!!

These were all originally saved as transparent images so there was no need to do any cutting out, but thanks to a certain image hosting website *cough*photobucket*cough* they had to be re-saved as Jpegs which means the transparency has gone. In other words, get ready to use the 'cut' tools.
1. Take either of these backgrounds; blue if your Zoid is republican or red if your Zoid is Imperial. If you want to add and extra lightning effects, now is the time to do it.
2. Cut out your chosen Zoid from another picture and paste it onto the background. (note - you may have to resize the Zoid pic first in order for it to fit)
3. Cut the bottom border out from the pictures below (the red one is for the Imperial box and blue for Republican) and paste it onto your box picture. Line it up nicely.
4. Add the '8+' logo anywhere it will fit (light blue for Republic, pink for Empire)
5. Add the text blurbs anywhere they fit. There are two; use both:
6. Now for the gimmick star. If your Zoid does nothing but walk and/or light up, add this one:
But nicer Zoids that make noises and light up need this one:
7. Add the Zoid's name and designation number. You can utilise the digits from '1/72' in the bottom right for the designation number, but the Zoid's name can be a bit more difficult. Try copying the letters from other Zoid boxes (eBay is a good source for these.)
8. And finally, add the finishing touches such as pasting a few shatter triangles at the bottom and under the gimmick star to give it extra detail.
For Jasc Paintshop users, there are a couple of other techniques you can use:
Box Corrugation - Go to the 'effects' menu, click 'texture effects' and bring up 'blinds.' Enter 'width : 5,' 'opacity : 4' and uncheck the 'Horizontal' box if it is checked. Click OK.
Added realism To impose your picture onto an existing box (ala Jryus's Turret Brahmam), go to the 'effects' menu, click 'Geometric effects' and select 'perspective vertical.' Fiddle around with the settings, cut the image and then paste it onto the front of the box picture you have. Done!
Have fun!!
