Im thirding that. Killing off cannon characters is almost always intrepreted as 'oh look how kewl my uberdoom villan/shinysparkly hero is. You realy do not want that, espicaly if oyur character is pritty cool. of course if you're using all channon characters, with no origionals, then this sort of thing can be exicuted. Its tricky to handle well, i think in all the fics ive eer read I've seen it done well once. Try not have cannon charectors act inaproprately too. Thers no way bit or harry would kill someone, however for example jamie might in one of his wild eagle delusions.
i still strongly recomend aginst it.

I've seen it done well a few times, and horribly a lot of times. If it's done well I can really like it, otherwise I go augh. What're you planning? Without giving too much away, I'm writing a story where Leena is living in the ZBC capital, thanks to the sponsorship of the new Chairman. The Chairman is the villain of the story and seeks to control Leena. When Leena begins to socialize with two cannon characters (not saying who), he decides to have them eliminated so that Leena's grief will assist his manipulation. Going by that summary, my plot does fall into the "uberdoom villan" category. I guess everyone wants to think they're story's different. I'm leaning against killing off the characters. , but at the same time I don't like that fans instantly award "character shields" to the show's original cast. I mean, isn't a character's survival part of the tension in a story?

I have to admit that part of the reason I like Doctor Who is that it's had the guts to kill off a main character a few times, giving it a bit more edge in that respect. But on the other side of it, it's never properly killed the Doctor. You know he's gonna be okay, and yet the writing's so good that you're left afraid anyway....though I do wish they'd have the guts to kill off someone in the new series, shake up the newer fans some :p.
My main issue with that plot would be why the ZBC guy is evil, and why he's wanting to manipulate Leena more than anything-I mean, with her you've got Doc Toros and possibly Bit, but Bit won't be pushed around easily. Kidnapping and threatening their lives could work there, but it'd have to be an effective kidnapping and the guy seeming evil and intelligent enough to pull it off. You can beleive Elena's in trouble when Guylos nabs her, but Leena having anything to fear from the Backdraft? Not really.
If he's trying to destroy everything she cares about *eithout* her knowing, he could go about it in more subtle ways too. Ruin Team Blitz financially, make Bit get all wanderlust-y and take off, etc....

My main issue with that plot would be why the ZBC guy is evil, and why he's wanting to manipulate Leena more than anything. There is more to the story. Put simply, the Chairman is a Zenevas heir looking to replace the ZBC, Guylos, and Helic governments with his own Empire. Leena has some unique trait that is a part of his plans. This new Chairman controls the Backdraft by making Altiel is puppet, and has the Backdraft perform terrorist attacks as opposed to simple battle game interferrence. He's already abducted Dr. Toros and Leon, staging their deaths in the process, and Bit's unable to pilot due to battle wounds. The Chairman's also molding Leena into a figurehead for the ZBC forces, a leader against the BD. This too ties into his plans. If he's going to kill the two anime characters, he'd make it look it was an act of revenge/cruelty on the part of the Backdraft, which would make Leena hate them more and increase her battle efforts. But again, I hestitate because many readers would instantly say "Oh no! You killed so-and-so! I'm not reading any more!"

Nope, sounds like pretty standard post NC0 War/Doom scenario. And thats the one that does not fit with NC0 at all.
I've never understood why everyone makes the BDO out to be some sotrt of evil terrorist organisation/world domination plot/whatever. They're not. Theyre a criminal group who make money off staging ilelgal battles. They don't go aorund killing people off, attacking random villages, asasinating the fatehrs of Gary Stus and the like. There's no reason at all for them to do such - it'd jsut attract unwated attention that would deter from their main source of income.
And Zenebas does not fit in the anime at all. End of sotry.

I'd argue Zenebas didn't exist in the anime too, especially with some of how Guylos is set up (more like Zenebas), Prozen going the insanity route instead of reviving it, and Deathy being an ancient Zoidian thing. There's also the question of how Zenebas could have an heir bouncing around we don't know about...heck, if you eliminate the existence of Wolff, the only potential one in canon...isn't Zenebas-y at all.
My other issue is the Backdraft is already splat post-/Zero, and I...do not like them being brought back as if all the smiting of them had never really happened. And like Rick said, they're not outright evil...if you tried to push them to it, some would follow, I suspect a lot of others wouldn't.

I suggest making evil Zenebas dude seem really, really nice and kind and gentle, even to the third person veiwer. Make it seem like SOMEONE is plotting against her, and the Chairman is her constantly worried, trying to protect her, acting in a very fatherly manner... Then drop the bombshell at the end when he steps out of the shadows at a dramatic moment, maybe wrestling with his emotions as the cat is let out of the bag about how he's been manipulating everyone from the start. Make it a real OMGWTF moment.

Nope, sounds like pretty standard post NC0 War/Doom scenario. Doesn't every story sound pretty basic when you just summarize it? No, not at all the end. The anime doesn't cover what happened to the Zoidians beyond the Deathsaurer's rampage, so I don't see why I can't develop my tale to match the Battle Story a bit more. Why are you trying to put limits on what people can and cannot write? Regardless, this thread isn't what I originally came to discuss. I've already posted much of this story on FanFiction.net, but I haven't reached the part where I decide the two characters' fate. I'm still considering the two characters' fate. There's not much point in talking about what I'm allowed to use in a story.

There's a lot of reasons Zenebas in a battle story sense doesn't fit into the anime, but since like you said it's not helping, I'll shush. I hope I'm not coming across as nasty or something (I don't mean to be, I'm just picky like I am with my own stuff), but as people tend to ignore the history behind them I get...twitchy about speaking up for Zenebas.
I dunno how much history matters if you're forking another faction into the anime anyway, considering CC >_>.

Good point there, Orange. There are plenty of other ways to demonstrate a chracter's persdonalty or intentions that don't involve killing of of canon chracters. In fact, such a plot device is what I often see as one of the most straight-forward and basic ways of demonstrating a chracter - he does bad things thuis he must be a bad guy.
YOu can easily do the same without killing a pre-exiusting chracter. Hell, I can think of pelnty of ways.

Since this thread is pinned, I guess there's no rules against reviving it, eh?
In a semipro writing forum that I participate in, they have utilized a very manageable format for posting stories for comment. The method is quite simple. The author starts two threads.
The first thread is the story the author is posting. Let's say the story title is "Destiny." The author creates the first thread called "Destiny - Story - Do NOT reply."
The second thread is created by the author for comments. So for the story "Destiny." There is a second thread called "Destiny - Comments Thread."
This method helps authors get feedback without their story thread getting bogged down with comments.
Would it work around here?

I'd be cool with you starting one...or anyone else, really. I don't mind comments in the same thread, but I never post works in progress (I write waaaaay too slowly).

Only time an organization like backdraft would kill somebody would be on accident. hell, they didn't even use their Death Stinger tail cannon to destroy the ZBC's ultrasaurus (b tw, that's their headquarters as far as I can tell)Instead they try to DISABLE it. Killing people brings less money than robbing them and leaving them alive. hell, at one point harry Champ gets his ass handed to him and backdraft takes ALL his Zoids. If somebody wanted to bring back Backdraft they'd ahve to do it carefully, especially since all the Dark judges were destroyed. I think a story involving where the hell the dark judges came from would be interesting.
