The word I think you guys are looking for is wavelength. The light that we see travels at a different wavelength than microwaves, ultraviolet rays or infrared, so we can't see them, but they react to different phenomena.
Different colours travel at different speeds too; that's why sunsets are red, since red is the wavelength of light that can travel the farthest.

I don't like the scope myself. It makes more sense to me to have the display mounted somewhere inside the cockpit, or with that level of technology, displayed on a HUD. The thermal imager itself would be very small and could mount easily on the neck or back. We have thermal imaging equipment on our Hummers, viewed from a small monitor inside the vehicle. We don't pull a scope down over the windshield.
Maybe its just me. <shrug>

I think the Koenig Wolf's scope is the one thing I don't like about it. It's just so.... clunky. And unnecessary, for all the reasons Bleidd mentioned above. Imaging systems should be built straight into the cockpit.
I know it makes more sense if it has the CP-22 on, but still. I am /so/ taking it off when I customize it. I'll take the translucent orangey bits and put them on a radar thingy, and then.... *goes on and on*

Maybe the reason they didnt include the scope was specifically for this reason. Maybe she gets an upgrade later on in this next half of the series.

When Van was fighting a Viper. He flipped a switch on his HUD and use infra red to see through smoke.

The Helcats had special heat diffusion devices like the F-117 and B-2, so that they couldn't (Easily) be seen on infrared. The Sabre Tiger doesn't have that kind of equipment, even if it's an (Oy vey) "Holotech"

Personally I dont understand why Koenig Wolf needs a Scope on it, all that data should be inside the cockpit.. imagine looking out the Windshield of your Car into a smaller hole on a visor hanging infront of you. it would be annoyinglly difficult and create on hell of a blindspot.
