Build and painting is DONE! CC13 is ready for final assembly (which involves installing cables as I go, so not just sticking joints together).
This one feels like a marathon!

Very exciting! It's really impressive how you soldier on through these huge projects. Interested to see how those cables are utilized!

CC13 is completed and being photographed! ... I don't want to see this one go, because it is really a striking machine. As soon as I can, I will post the build page!

Still awaiting final approval from the custom's owner so I can post the page! In the meantime...
Starting on my next non-commissioned custom; my daughter supplied me with a very cool Lego eagle head and has requested that, just maybe, I could build her a Zoid custom from it.
Custom eagle on the way!

Aw that's a nice idea. Is she going to have any creative input or will it be a big surprise when you're done?

I have free reign on this one, but it is a very fast build. It still has to meet my standards, but I'm afraid it will be a good portion of Bionicle parts.

Well, I got a chance to drop about 7 hours in on my personal project ("Bridge-Bluster") but I am now working on CC14, tentatively named "Wildcard", a custom that has cost $350 in parts. This will be a build focusing on form and details, and fully lit. Should prove to be a real challenge!

Wow sounds like a huge undertaking-- good luck Maethius! Do you prefer the massive, larger than Gojulas/Ultrasaurus type customs to more mid-range sized ones? I'm sure each has its benefits but it seems like you enjoy the heavily construction-intensive ones a lot.

I really enjoy the mid-sized customs the most... mid to large. They offer a lot of opportunities for cool features and a feel for mass, but huge ones tend to be commissioned by my clients. While I do love to work on them, they come with a variety of challenges with leverage, jointing, and balance that can really limit my designs. I would love to work on some smaller customs, too, but those are few and far between these days. ^_^
Tonight I started building the second Sturm Tyrann, but with an eye for how I am going to modify it. HMM kits are really cool, but MUCH harder to customize on a large scale than battery operated toys with their larger, simpler parts!

Ah, interesting! I wouldn't have guessed that, since as you say you seem to get a lot of requests for giant super Zoids.
Huh, I think my experience is similar to yours with regards to HMM Zoids. With more "modern" kits, like newer Gunpla and Koto Zoids, I find it a lot easier to do straight builds of, since the engineering's much more customer-friendly. Older kits and battery operated kits, I find it takes lot more TLC to just bring to a decent standard... but also lend themselves more easily to being totally altered in big ways.

I'm really excited to post pictures of my work-in-progress HMM Gairyuki. Here's the head: The parts laid out so you can see the modifications I did. The upper head armor. The top piece by the nose is mimicking how the HMM Fury's armor connects to the frame at the nose. The smaller peg clicks into the Fury's frame, but is really lose and is only there to help me line it up. The larger peg clicks into the other armor piece and single-handedly stabilizes the armor on the face. I used a chisel to carve out slots int he jaw armor to allow it to click into the Fury's actual jaw. The armor is glued at the chin, but is flexible and can pop on or off of the Fury's jaw by flexing it. I didn't modify the Fury's actual head at all to do this. My plan is to leave the entire HMM Fury's frame completely intact, and modify the Gairy armor so that it can be removed or left on, like the Fury's Berserk armor. I'd also like to be able to build the Hoenn and Gekkou autonomous Blox Zoids. Admittedly, I haven't customized a Zoid in about 12 years, but I was inspired to start the project after seeing Pika's thread. I went home to my parents' house and turned it upside down looking for my old Zoids, but I could only find select few pieces of my old Gairyuki - most of my other customs and the pieces I had collected had long since been thrown away, sadly. I did find both copies of the thigh armor (that makes the majority of the Gekkou Blox Zoid), and I plan on using both copies to cover both sides of each leg in the same way the HMM Fuhrer's upper leg armor does. I then bought a pre-built Gairyuki from Jedi Bill off Ebay (and I think I overpaid, it wasn't in the condition promised by the auction) and bought an HMM Berserk Fuhrer from Ebay as well.

Love how it is turning out! It really helps to see in progress shots; WIP photos really highlight how much labor and artistry goes into something that may look simpler in the end.
