To be fair, it's basically just the cost of the base Zoid ($23) + the cost of the customize parts set ($6) and tax ($3). With maybe $3 to cover the custom painted details. First of all, tax is added later, so you can't just say "it's like paying tax" because you'll have to pay tax again. Secondly, where are you seeing it sold for 35 dollars? it's almost twice that.

My price estimate is based on AmiAmi's listing as it seems to still be a well-liked store for many US customers. I also didn't say it was "like paying tax." I included tax as a flat estimate because most JP stores have moved away from listing tax separately and now include it in the price. I believe AmiAmi is one of them, or at least there was no tax listed on my last invoice for the AZ Murasame Liger, while other stores that don't bundle usually list it separately on the invoice. Yen has also been devaluing over the past few years. It's no longer $1 = 100 Yen. It's more like, 2/3. Paypal's current conversion rate is $1 = 145 Yen. So Amiami's listing price (5280 yen) shakes out to $36 ($1 more, but it was a rough estimate to begin with, so.) Its full retail price of 6,600 yen is $42 now.
This may not apply to all countries depending on how your exchange rates shake out, but for the US, it's not horrible. Those estimates also aren't including shipping. Whether or not shipping is worth paying is a can of worms all on its own, and is different for everyone. I was only pointing out that it's a few bucks more than the combined cost of the parts included, which seems fair given it has lots of custom painting (which I'd happily pay a few extra bucks for, but your mileage may vary.) It's ok if that's still not worth the price to some people. I don't like the cost of Raven Raptor either, even though I know it's literally Revvy Retail Price + Pile Bunker Unit.

Yeah I assume that it breaks even if you buy it from, say, BBTS for 65 bucks and get their 4 dollar shipping. Basically we can't win
