This is great news for the custom makers out there. I for one just want the ability to make spare parts that get damaged or lost.

This is great news for the custom makers out there. I for one just want the ability to make spare parts that get damaged or lost. That is another ball of wax yet to conquer. I need a 3d scanner to for some things like that. Modeling wise an existing part via modeling software from scratch would be quite an undertaking. But with a scanner quick and easy. Just scan the part upload and done. I've spent several hours just making each of these models and now have to scratch them and start over. It has thus far went faster and easier this round. However that doesn't mean I'm done yet. 'The price of education is priceless!'

So moving forward on the possibility of a zoids chess set in the lines I outlined I made some things. I made stl files of each of the factions symbols. I've uploaded them on to thangs.com and crealitycloud both. If one goes to thangs.com and searches 'zoids' way down the list of builds are these files I made. When the rest of my intensions bear fruit these will be added to each of the bases of the chess pieces on each side. Just putting them out for other builders to use if they want to for thier purposes. If you go. Let me know what you think. I am still a rookie on all facets of 3d building but am learning as much as I can. When my other builds are finished to satisfaction they will be put up in the same places. I utilized a web site that converts jpg and a mirad of other file formats to other formats. After working on pics with a paint type program I simply upload and convert. TaDa! These are the results. BTW this works with most any pic. anyconv.com is that website for those interested.

So I had to see what the squares of a chess board would look like. Sorry it is in translucent blue, but it was what was still in the tray after printing the wasp window. This is the 1st test printing of it.

3d printers can do nice translucency like that now? Yes I have blue, red, green and a smokey black in translucents. Keep in mind this is off a 3d resin printer. It uses uv light to cure each layer as it builds upon the last layer. Thin item such as this was only 15 minutes and only 100 sum odd layers. 5mm thick, height, was max on that build. About .2mm per layer. However once washed it does get a bit hazy. There are work arounds to get it shinny again and crystal clear. Oh and there are other translucent colors and clear as well, I just haven't bought them all yet. I've seen orange, purple and yellow.

This bodes well for zoids customs if the clear can get even close to the clear of canopies..

Yes it is very clear. But like I said it gets hazy during the wash and cure stages. The work around is a clear polyurethane dip and dry. This brings it back to crystal clear. Not only canopies but custom horn for the King Gojulas and such! My eye canopies are still in the working on stages of the final product for my eyes on my wasp 1 or 2 mm wider in all directions and then fitting a hinge and test build again. 3 builds so far to hammer out a design. Likely 8 over all then mirror it to get the other one. It's a small print so not much material used so no big deal as long as the final is exactly what I'm looking for. I'll put up a pic of the current eye if anyone wants to see, but keep in mind it's not a finished product and no hinge attachment yet either.

So I was hunting around for companion items for my zoids judge. I finally found the zoids judge capsule. I can order the 3d model and print it up. I will after an upcoming ending of an auction and whether or not it is won by me. Anyway for those who may want a looky lou. Here ya go. 3dexport.com/3dmodel-zoids-judge-capsule-247006.htm

The sale of these models to print from is bizarre to me. you already have to pay a ton for the printer and the materials, but paying someone -this much- for the rights to use their model which is already based on a property they don't own... instead of just a small commission fee or supporting them by donations..

Yeah I know. It is rather steep. It is a lot of work to make a 3d model from scratch. So I do understand as to why he is asking as much as he is for the work he's done. I also have bookmarked a set of mad max fury road vechiles with a cost of over 300 for the the whole set. Once again they don't own the rights to those items, but went thru the tremendous effort to make the 3d models. It makes me wonder if I too should be as greedy if and when I finish the huge undertaking of the chess sets or still keep my works out there for free as I've done thus far. I understand both sides of the issue. But at least on mine it would actually be a final product of my own making. Just with tomy's licensed characters. On both of the other cases the final product is the licensed product of another entity. Those other entities can make an issue of it if they wish. But out of the countless examples of this practice in the 3d modeling world they very seldom do. I know out of some of the models I've made I've yet to recieve a cease and desist letter.
