Hi,
Does anyone have experience with resin 3D printing?
I've mulled over the idea of creating a custom zoid out of 3D printed parts.
Is it possible?

It is definitely possible (I custom commissioned a Konig Wolf Silver Fang from Torrigan, which is all the bone colored armor you see there), but they are fragile. You have to treat them with a lot of care. This is especially true with joints. The strain of the twisting motion can easily crack sockets or snap off pegs. Since making Silver Fang, though, Torrigan has since custom designed some joints that seem to be holding up nicely! Iirc they used a custom mixture of resin. It's something to keep in mind though, if you want to design an entire Zoid, not just an armor. I think, if it is something you want to venture into, it'd be beneficial to get into some basic customizing too. Helped me a lot with getting used to the assembly process of these resin kits.

I do wish that we have a resource to get small replacement parts made available.

Oh nice! Mother Bio wasn't a prototype, but rather a custom statue + model kit made for Zoids Generations. Many people love her though, myself included, and I think it'd be an amazing project. Honestly, if you do not care much about articulation, the sky is the limit. You could probably make an amazing statue without needing to worry about articulation.

I'd have to design and 3D model it from scratch right ?

Yeah. To my knowledge there's no publicly available tyranno 3d model to build off of.

You would have to rely on a 3D scan of a needed part. I am looking heavily into investing in a printer this year, so perhaps I will have actual answers (and possibly solutions) later this year.

I've been looking into this kind of thing for several months now, starting when I got a printer last year. I finally had a small breakthrough where I think some resins can work. To work well (anything close to a production model) It would definitely take a lot of fine tuning though-- joint tolerances, offset distances, calibrating for resin exposure, etc. The good thing is they seem to take glue and paint decently well so far, which a lot of materials like polycaps in models or POM in action figures do not. Here's the articulated humanoid arm I made:
Printer: Sonic Mini 4k Resins: Nylon Green Tough and Beige Flex (both from Phrozen)

Great work. It can only get better.

I am really excited about starting down the 3D printing road... just hoping I learn my curve really fast!

Hopefully one day 3D printers become easily available and affordable, and we just print the model kits whenever we need.

Some printers are quite affordable now... but the quality of them is naturally far less than pricier models.

The printers are indeed inexpensive... though that's definitely reflected in their accessibility. Definitely feels like a DIY/wild west sort of thing, where one should sort of expect things to go wrong and then have to rely on message boards, reddit, facebook groups, etc to troubleshoot. In contrast with a Formlabs or Sprintray machine I'm sure they have much more robust and comprehensive customer support.
The other thing is the resin cost is substantial. I've found that the cheaper resins ($30-40/kg) are okay for the people doing tabletop minis, but for this kind of thing we really need the more durable kinds which seem to be more in the $70-$100/kg range.

Agree completely on the cost of resins. I've been looking into that magical combination of detail, strength, and cost... but if any one factor has to suffer, it will be cost.
