ive been turning various z-knights in to remote controlled fighting machines for a while now.....
arms.....ive got down.
legs....i resorted to essentially strapping rollerskates onto them.....untill now.
its not quite finished but ive managed to finallly figure out independant leg drive. ive squeezed two motors in and figured out how to gear it.
its not finished but a preliminary test on one leg shows even with increased gearing (faster speed lower torque) its still able to operate.
after i scrounge together the parts (gears) out of another main unit and find another teeny tiny motor esc....it should be good.
all this will result in me being able to drive either leg forwards or backwards.

Very cool! Do you normally use paired motors for this kind of thing? I've never seen that in a custom before and know very little about RC.

this is the first time ive done a dual motor setup. yes one motor for each leg. i have been using a cheap servo tweaked so it could roll indefinately eaither way, on either leg as wheels/rollerskates.
ive found these teeny tiny 2amp reversible esc's on ebay for slot car racers, that run zoid/z-knight size motors pefectly, i will have to wait for ebay to send me another to finish this off.
ive had a look inside my dibison and it looks possible to do a similar thing with that, but i dont have a spare dibson main unit for extra parts. larger zoids like kong etc should also be possible.
rc is very simple to do and relatively cheap, if your comforatble with a soldering iron and being able to mount/install servos.
grab yourself a T8FB from ebay (8ch remote control and reciever) £30, and a load of 9g servos at £1 pound each.
i run them off of a single 14500 lipo (3.7-4.2v) which handily is the same size/form as an AA battery...which fits in the zoids/z-kinght original holders perfectly. you can also get these on ebay cheap.
mount up your servvos plug it all in....and your away.
on a side note you can just wire up your exsisting zoid motor to one of the tiny escs....and you will have a forwards backwards walking zoid....but with no steering. this will be a lot easier than what ive been upto to get steering.

This is really cool! I might try something similar to that inspired by your project.

the extra tiny escs came the other day.... they wernt as good/powerful as the other 2 i originally had....(they didnt turn the motors round under leg loads) so i had to dismantle my "rc hacker z-knight" and swap one out. with the extra power provided by the old escs the legs could turn, and with my new gearing...at quite a rate. they still had enough force to make my z-knight hop about all over the place. i have the throttle set to 50% max but this still is too fast. i could realy do with some lower KV rated motors, so they spin slower but with more force/torque. im pretty sure they are 130 size motors....i cant find any properly rated ones on ebay.....they dont like including a Kv value then finding the right one with the right worm gear attached :S this could be some time

i did some experimenting and i have realised the two motors i am using are different kv ratings......i should of guess as they are differnt colours :s
the blue motors spins faster but with less torque..... that was one difference I noticed between the japaense model and the english version....
another difference was the japanese main unit had a saftey clutch mechanism whereas the uk version did not, does this translate to the uk and japanese zoids aswell?
