More specifically, the weaponized Zoids have the traditional eye styles. If I'm not mistaken, the "feral" Zoids will still have the wild eyes, but that leaves plenty of Zoids with the style we're used to~

Between this Cannon Bull, the Dibison, and Cannonfort, it's almost as if there's an unsaid rule that all bison or similar-type Zoids must be more mechanical and blocky even compared to their contemporary counterparts. Though I guess it'd be harder to design a "sleek" bovine in the vein of Saber Tiger or Blade Liger, etc. Honestly though, THIS. I can't believe they even blatantly reused the scaffolding-like pattern on the shoulders and thighs. I really wish Zoids Wild wasn't as much 'copy, paste, edit it around a bit' as it is. That, and making a more organic looking bovine shouldn't be that hard, especially not for the ZW line. A 5 second google search tells me that it's not impossible to make a mecha bison that doesn't look like the Bagger 293. This is just laziness. Come on, Tomy.

I think it's partly laziness, partly a misguided attempt to pander to older fans' nostalgia, 'look guys, it's that zoid you like, but in Wild!'. It's why Catalga is Molga 2.0, Wild Liger is a weird hybrid of Schneider and Shieldy, hell, possibly even why Fang Tiger is Tigers Team yellow. The callbacks are just so conservative they aren't distinct enough to feel like new and interesting zoids.

I agree that the Cannon BUll is copy/paste, but so were several past models (Shield Liger/Blade Liger, Iron Kong/Deadly Kong) but it was done with intent; to show an earlier version of a later kit (um... in the story timeline, not the product release date) But, I agree, design a new, more accurate animal! How about a bison that IS a bison? Or a bull that looks like a bull?

Also you mentioned technically it's clearly a bull but named bison. I kind of like that in Japanese properties, it's just a fun quirk. Like how the 'ligers' are lion type, or how wardick is a coelacanth, not a wrasse (otherwise known as 'slippery *Watch your language!*'). Even the dub name 'war shark' had the same fun "wait that isn't a shark" aspect

That's so awesome there'll be a mix of feral zoids and weaponized zoids in the new series. It's like the changeover period we never got to see.
