Though the development of a front line command unit and escort for Gil Kaiserin was known by Helic, the kingdom had no clue from what origins that unit would spawn. Deep sea surveys conducted by the DFZ-1000 Daidalos revealed several destroyed and one disabled Gungyalado; one of the fiercest Zoids ever fielded. The merging on ancient and cutting edge technologies created a terrifying progeny; the Gungyalado MkII. Intended to rapidly deploy force-destroying power to any field of battle, the re-appearance of the Gungyalado frame has brought great concern to the war councils of Guylos, Zenevas, and the kingdom of Helic. It is possible that the Gungyalado MkII could be the single most successful avian Zoid of all time. UMBRA MORTIS - "DEATHSHADOW" When Gil Kaiserin and her followers break from the human/Zoidarian nations to form the first Zoid Empire the MkIIs also swayed to follow her, but one stood apart. Her second-in-command broke ranks to form his own rogue force. Deadly to all nations, loyal to the Zoids as a species but under his own leadership. This unit became branded as Umbra Mortis ... "Deathshadow." Commission Custom #10 is also a character Zoid; a unique unit amid a unique species. As always, please visit my build page and offer up your two cents... more, if you can spare it! I was worried for a moment you might have cut up a rare classic zoid. I love that instead you "recreated" it.. This is totally beautiful.

I love those colors. Everything from the construction to the paint job is flawless here. I especially appreciate the work-in-progress shots - I really wish I had understood how this kind of thing works back when I had the Zoids and the ideas to customize them.
Beautiful job as always, Maethius.

Thank you, guys.
I had great reservations about taking the saw to a Gungylados, OJR or re-issue! As I searched the internet for pictures of another Gungy custom I came up empty... there were NONE that I could find! The condition this one was in really nudged me to attempt this custom; it was broken and glued in several places, the caps crumbled apart, the wings were broken... it was a deceptive purchase from the get-go, for which I was refunded most of my money (I let the seller keep a portion that I felt was appropriate if he had been selling the item "as is for parts only" to let him save face.) Every cut on this thing was terrifying to make! I'm so glad you like it!

Searching in Japanese brings up a couple of other customs, but I think it's still safe to say yours is the most impressive! (Now that I think about it, I don't think there were even any Gungy customs in the School Grade Magazines, the source of most of those crazy OJR customs like Centaur and Gil Saurer.)

Wow what a unike custom design. I really like the way you made the wings and Horn as it looks bit of an undead/robo dragon. Also the Gungy is still there so you kept the story working!

Falcarius - There they are! I should have you do my searches. ^_^ I'm glad you like it! cougan - Thank you! I really wanted to make sure it looked like a forced evolution of the original design. Originally my client wanted an articulated Gungy, but as I pointed out that the original leg, arm, tail, and neck parts (pretty much EVERYTHING), it quickly took on a new life.

What!? How can I miss this great custom until now!!
That's a Huge improve form the base Zoids, especially the legs make it looks much bigger and better than the original Gungyalado.
Another great custom.

Thank you, GO! Yeah, jointing the legs and body really stretched Gungy out quite a bit. As with virtually every custom I make, there are still changes and details that I would love to add, but at some point you gotta say, "okay, we're done! I need to mail this one off!"
I hope my next custom turns out as well!

Oh, yes, pretty much the entire original model is in there. I had to swap out the tail entirely, but even those parts are used in the wings and as tail armor. I think the head changed the most, but when you look closely at it you can see the original. Even the more organic, aggressive armor around the eyes is made of the original cheek spikes flipped around.
