Hi there, I recently found something cool I Always knew I still had an Ultrasaurus box laying around and Always thought it would have an Ultras inside. Checked once briefly and just saw sprues.. ah well no extra Ultra after all.. (have Zoids 2 and regular one) This week I checked again...and saw a motor (and thought well I have 2 so why is that?) And at the bottom there were 2 bags with all the parts! So I totally forgot that I had that.
BUT now I have a "spare" Ultra, is there a really good way to paint this one to become that elusive Red Ultra?

The best way to paint it would be to remove all of the parts from the sprue, clean them, and then begin the meticulous process. The best results would be to airbrush the kit. It also depends on how you want it to look in the end; like an Ultra Red out of the box, or weathered and detailed? Myself, I would love to build an Ultrasaurus and paint it with the Red scheme but with all the details, soot, oil stains, and weathering. The real difference there is in what sheen to use; real plastic is almost an eggshell (semigloss) while a more realistic finish might use something like Testor's Insignia Red matte paint.

Thanks Maethius (by the way I have followed your artwork for many years, awesome job on all your customs!) But yeah I was hoping for the out of box kinda look. I have never weathered my Zoids (I can certainly see the appeal in that, but have also never ever used stickers or decals, because I like them to look like or always thought of them to be"wild zoids" (before the new Zoids Wild even came out haha) (even though they do have pilots etc) but I like the "clean look". Bit silly maybe because they should get dirty or weathered during battle etc, but just never wanted to do that. I also do not have an airbrush or paint whatsoever (let alone painting skills) one lucky thing is that my Ultra was allready off sprue and cleaned (as it was my extra one). But I would really like it to look like the famed Red Ultra (cause never going to find an actual one.. And my old reds have sentimental value (Mammoth! and such

Thanks for following my stuff! I wish I could work faster... too many ideas!
PAINT! Well, your best bet for an out of the box look would then be to use spray paints at least as a base coat, but careful not to go too heavy. If you can, try to use both cans and jars for brush detailing. I tend to use Testor's enamels (though I am slowly migrating to acrylics). In that case, you can often get a can of a color and find the jar of the same color. If you can't find the right sheen (semi-gloss/matte) you could paint as close as you can, then apply a clear coat to equal out the finish to a more satin look.

Haha sounds difficult (I am a builder, not much of a painter, used to do Warhammer, but long ago) and I actually don't want to mess up my Ultra.. But I do want to make a red one.. I know of the whole to much layers of paint thing (do not want to restrict movement) but that's about it.. "Easiest" would be to recast all parts in the correct color..but also not an option for me..

Well, the EASIEST way to do it is to find someone who kicks tail at painting and hire them to do it!
