And here we have the last two members of Stormbringer, the our lead protagonist and our deuteragonist. Finally was able to complete the Liger Zero after nearly two months after the upper left teeth went missing, but oddly enough, I found the part today on the first anniversary of Mom's death. I find it hard to believe that was more than a coincidence, and I'm a very logical kind of guy, haha.
Rygart:
Lore (Some of this still has details that need to be hashed out as better as I write, so it's subject to change):
Rygart is the result of Luc Anderson's Blade Liger, Caliburn, evolving. After Luc defended an Organoid (from an as of yet undecided group), leading his Blade Liger to be gravely damaged, the wounded Organoid decided the best course of action to save both of them was to initiate an Ultimate X evolution. The resulting fusion of the Organoid and Blade Liger's personalities proved an unexpected result, as while the Liger retained the extremely loyal parts of his personality, he ended up being far more mischevious. (Think the Liger Zero laughing at Bit in episode 2 of NC0, but as a common occurrence. Like this Liger would knock things off of tables like a housecat) However, despite his new nature, Rygart remains a powerful -and thanks to the CAS system, adaptable- force in the team's arsenal.
Build notes:
So Rygart actually is the culmination of years of work in Zoids RP. My fic (that is going very slowly) is trying to tell the story of my two characters in the RP that kinda never got told because threads kept dying. I was tempted to go with silver claws and teeth like he had as a Blade Liger, and I could have kept the deep blue armor, but the stock color scheme of the Liger Zero and its CASes are just too classic to get rid of, and I couldn't bring myself to do it. But something had to identify this as Luc's Liger. Not Bit Cloud's. Not any other. Just Luc's, and the best way I could find to do that was to retain the green optics he had as a Blade Liger.
The new optics are actually cast from clear resin, dyed green and cast in a mold made of silicone caulk. There are some imperfections in the piece (the surface is kinda rough, probably from imperfections in the mold), but it looks good all the same for something I did on a budget.
. . . okay, so I was rewatching Code Geass before I started this photoshoot. First time trying out my complete series Blu-Rays. That picture quality is stunning. Can't wait for R3. But, back on track here.
The claws I re-did in a more anime accurate color, it was Inca Gold, I believe by Testors or Model Master. Now they look ready to ignite with that telltale Strike Laser Claw glow. The light blue parts I did away with using Tamiya's gunmetal, except the joint in the middle of the body, which can't be seen much and I wasn't gonna disassemble him that much, and on the part where the shock cannon attaches, which I must have glued in when I built him (which was back when the HMM Zero came out). I'm gonna see if Tamiya makes a brush on of that color and fix that if I can, eventually.
Finally, since Luc would be enough of a Liger Zero fanboy to do this (Bit Cloud is his hero, after all, haha), I put the Liger Zero insignia waterslides on.
He's a simple custom, and not much of one at that, but I'm proud of how he came out.
Incidentally, while I don't have them yet for the Whitz and Ryuki's pilots, Skye and Kai, I got some 1/72 figures off shapeways that looked similar enough to my characters (not 100%. Luc's coat should be down to his shins and Kat should only reach up to his shoulders, but close enough) RenegadeFox89 painted them up for me, so that's fun. Here's Rygart with his pilot.
(and one of my favorite shots I've ever taken)
Now for Dakota
Lore:
Dakota is Kat Blakeborough's Liger and her primary Zoid. Originally a Shield Liger DCS-J, Dakota evolved into the Zoid known as Murasame Liger with the help of Kat's Organoid, Rei. Upon Kat's return to the hangar, Skye discovered that the newly evolved Liger also possessed the CAS system. With the help of the team's sponsor, the Lange Group, two additional armors were commissioned: the high-speed skirmisher, Hayate Liger, and the heavyweight brawler, Mugen Liger. The baseline capabilities of all three forms are incredible, and with Rei in the mix, Dakota easily contends with Rygart and Shōri as one of the strongest Zoids in Stormbringer's hangar.
Build Details:
The Murasame I got actually had a broken cockpit hinge, so I just glued the cockpit shut. Other than that, unlike with Rygart, it was just transferring the color scheme she had as a DCS-J. Testors' Gloss Dark Red was used for the armor and Tamiya's Chrome Silver on the claws and teeth. I would love to make her posable, but the pre-constructed body of the Murasame is difficult to work with. I would love to get my hands on the Resin conversion kit for the Murasame Liger that makes it posable, but I don't know really where to find it, nor am I sure I could afford to use a middle man service. Or, and hear me out here, HMM Murasme Liger, and I just redo the custom. (Hint, Hint Koto. You already teased me with the ZA Mura). Additionally, I took a Sharpie, Ultra Fine gold paint marker and lined the Zoidian Runes on the katana blade.
Other notes: I found Evolt to be far too broken in a NC0 style setting, so I gutted that and replaced it with CAS. As Kat's primary personal weapon is a sword, I figured the Mura made the most sense thematically for her, mostly because Luc had a Blade Liger already and I wasn't feeling the Slash Liger. All three forms are going to have a retooled version of the Mugen's Gravity Cannon that we came up with for the Zoids RP called a "Graviton Impact Cannon". TL;DR, it's an impact cannon like normal, but the shells are laced with Planetellocite. (I'm also treating anything not called the Ultrasaurus' gravity cannon as just being incredibly good at crushing structure and armor through the high gravitational stress than. . . that. So more the guy from Spongebob yelling "MY LEG!!!!" and less ... we're gonna stick the Death Stinger in a black hole. Or have Deadborders throw an Ultrasaurus or crush a Death Saurer. The sacrifices that need to be made so that some Zoids are fair in a competition setting, haha)
I think I've rambled enough, so here's a few more pics.
Just talking in the hangar (notice the Kat figure up by the katana)
and of course, the lovely team battle cry
and the Team Hangar that needs one more bay for the Whitz
