Another one in the series of customs with my Whitz Wolf SS. The Gairyuki is my second favorite Zoid in part because of its color scheme, so I did not change that This is merely a weapon mod, but I think it came out nicely. While I would love to make him poseable, sadly my Ryuki appeared to have some sort of plastic quality issue, and some of his parts are fragile. If I had realized that before building, I would have rigged him up to be poseable (because his motor doesn't work well at all). Things I would do if I could go back, I guess. More spoilers for my fic, too, I guess? But I'm not gonna just sit on a custom until I get to the late parts of the fic when I've only just started it. Shōri gets alluded to early on though, so this one's less of a big deal.
Also, I've seen several sources saying Shōri does mean "Victory" in Japanese. Considering Kai's Dark Spiner's name, Sekitsui, means "Spine", I guess he took naming cues from Young Justice's Superboy, but perhaps a little bit more creative, haha.
Lore: Shōri has been in Kai's possession since before he was the Captain of Stormbringer. But when his old team disbanded, the Ultimate X stopped cooperating with him. With the warrior now forced to rely solely on his Dark Spiner, Sekitsui, Shōri sits silently in the back of the Stormbringer hangar. But perhaps, Kai will one day figure out what the Gairyuki wants of him so they can finally work as a team again.
Pilot: Kai Yoshida
Team: Stormbringer
So this guy was a simple, out of the box build at first, but I felt that the Gairyuki felt a little plain, and looking at its weapons, it seemed like it didn't have much outside of its CPG and some small machineguns, which would be no fun to write. Tyrannosaurus was an ungodly strong animal, but the Gairyuki's frame seemed ill-suited to be a melee monster, and the team already has that in Luc and Kat's Ligers.
So I started to think about using the BLOX hardpoints, and purchased a BLOX CP-I (the Dispelow frame) and CP-C (Boldguard frame) and did them up in Tamiya's Gun Metal and added Gold details with an Ultra Fine, Gold Sharpie Paint Pen. Besides detailing the guns, I added some detail to the backpack to make it pop a bit more. I wanted Kai's Gairyuki to be identifiable, and I feel the extra firepower helps in that. Plus, while I dislike how the Gairyuki Destroy is built, I do have to say I enjoy the Dispelow's guns on their own, without the rest of the Dispelow parts that go into the Fuzor.
This was a FZ Gairyuki Shin kit, but the Shin weapons looked bad without having any sort of symmetry, so I figured the Boldguard weapons made nice secondary weapons.
It looks really nice, but as I mentioned before, I wish I could have made him poseable because a dynamic kit is always more fun.
