While they can easily pull the plug without enough recognition I doubt it's just to 'test the waters' before they begin one. To create a Zoids TV series or movie would take years, and building up the 'coming soon!' kind of atmosphere wouldn't make sense if they hadn't even started.
The plus side of that is, if it IS a visual media such as a TV show or movie, it is likely already well into development. Hopefully enough to make it to release day.
I hope we at least get news soon on when we can expect another announcement. A big part of me also wishes these things would ever make it to the main Zoids site. Please TT, hire somebody to maintain that poor neglected thing. It's weird for it not to update with relevant info until months later.

Well stated. They aren't up to something, they have been up to it for a while! We are just asking ourselves, "so, WHAT have they been up to?!"

I very much doubt it's a campaign to test the waters. With the lead times that any production has, whatever project this is was at or nearly finalized well before they even put the website together. Our only clue at this point seems to be the copyright categories (which do seem to at least rule out artbooks, so that theory is probably bunk). A net-series seems very possible. Something along the lines of what Gundam did with thunderbolt could be pretty cool

The site's updated with something about the Aggressive Blade Liger AB, if it's another contest I don't see any end dates. Anybody with a bit of Japanese able to glean anything more?
EDIT: Disregard that, seems like another contest, due to end on the 19th.

Yep, it's a free-to-play smartphone (Android/iOS) MOBA scheduled for release "this winter". Supposedly it's an "original setting based on the Zoids Concept Art worldview", although most of the in-game Zoid images look more NJR-style. It's being developed by Eighting, whose previous work includes Zoids Struggle and Full Metal Crash. Just like Material Hunters, they're offering Zoids Gold bonuses to everyone who preregisters (via Line, Twitter or email), with better bonuses unlocked for more preregistrations. 50 to begin with, another 50 if they reach 50,000 people, an "app-original weapon" if they reach 70,000, another 100 ZG each at 100,000 and 150,000, and a "second campaign" (as in "coming up with more bonuses", I assume) at 200,000. They're also allowing Android (4.4 or higher) users to apply for a closed beta test (5000 users) until the 6th of November. The beta is scheduled to run for one week in early November. The actual Takara Tomy page is still choking, but there's a Dengeki Hobby page where you can see most of the same information (although the 70k and 100k preregistration bonuses are swapped - also the case for all the other news sites, so the TT site might be wrong). It also has some character sketches by HIRONOX: Vance Radford, Trinity Sinclair, Sean/Shaun/Shawn Muirhead, Ann/Anne Gaster and Allen McClennan. Zoids seen so far: NJR-style Shield Liger, Command Wolf, Godos, Red Horn, Saber Tiger, Molga, and Death Saurer (from the trailer and in-game pictures) Concept Art-style Shield Liger, Pteras, Barigator (I think), Gustav, and a weird turret thing (from a couple of concept/design pictures)

Well I must say , Deep down I think I knew it was going to be a mobile game so no surprise there.
I have mixed feelings here. Watching the comments there's a lot of negativity going on from people who had high expectations. Even though they are negative I feel happy that so many cared about something in the zoids verse. I wonder if that is more likely to make Takara Tomy go nope, best not do any new zoid things with this bad reaction , or Hey look at all these people hoping for something, let's do more. Hoping for the Latter.
I'm happy to see a new zoids game regardless so I'll display gratitude. Will pre-register when the site isn't choking. Just wondering if there'll be any trouble downloading/ playing it outside of Japan.

It's mostly a shame how unlikely this is to ever get any sort of translation, IMO. I'm not even slightly surprised it's a Mobage, that was the path of least resistance and it seems to be the only Zoids related project Tomy seems willing to invest in at the moment. I think personally I was hoping for a toyline revival of some sort, but if that hasn't happened with any of the previous mobile games I doubt it'll happen now.

Then I would say another crappy mobile game. It's not like this world doesn't have enough of crappy mobile games yet.

Hoping for the Latter. Likewise. Disproportionate hype for another F2P mobile game that will be shut down in a year's time just like the other two is not what the fandom was hoping for, and it's good that people are making that clear. I do hope TT will see the response as a call to action, rather than reason to give up on the franchise (again).
