I have been gearing up for some time to do a gaming channel on youtube, and I plan to cover a number of Zoids games as part of that. I have gone to great lengths to get the absolute best picture quality that I can. I have purchased the XRGB mini upscaler made by the Japanese company Micomsoft, and the best capture card by the same company as well as a number of SCART cables for a number of my old systems and basically everything you could possibly want to get the best picture in recording gameplay. Even a complete overhaul of my PC.
However, I am having technical difficulty with the GameCube and Wii... It seems some games do not actually display at a proper 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. Instead for some reason they display a distorted picture with a slightly shorter horizontal. I have done my research and found this issue to be related to how the games were made. In short this is the actual picture the game is putting out by design, and older televisions just simply wouldn't display the excess empty space for some reason.
The Wii and GameCube aren't the only consoles that do this. In fact many do such as Dreamcast, original Xbox (on certain games), etc... But my upscaler compensates for all the others. It does not compensate for these two.
Does anyone know of a way I could correct for this? I didn't drop $2,000 building myself a nice little home recording studio to get subpar picture...

If it's the aspect ratio they're recorded in I'm not sure it's something you can fix without being compromising quality to some extent. You can change the aspect ratios, stretch, warp, etc., in just about any video editing program. This would also give you free reign to make some visual adjustments, if you weren't dead set on it being 100% original (adjusting brightness, colors, etc.)
