Just wondering if there are any Adventure Time fans here. If so feel free to discuss new episodes and give your thoughts on the show.

Oh god, how do I even go about describing it. Um, Avdenture Time is a silly, lighthearted cartoon that place in a post-apocalyptic world, 2000 years after civilization was destroyed in a nuclear holocaust. The nuclear fallout allowed magic to return to the world which, after enough time, created the fantasy setting in which the show takes place. The show is known for mixing the innocent happy-go-lucky nature of a children's cartoon with dark, morbid themes (like nuclear fallout, death, mutation). The show combines the disturbing with the beautiful and surreal imagery that one would expect from a work of fantasy. Adventure Time also sort of represents what most fantasy lovers would do if they had they ability to do anything (run around a magical land, waving a sword over their head, saving princesses, and hitting things that probably need hitting).the show is also intentionally strange and random which is a turn off for some people but I love it. Although it is intended as a kids show, the depth of the life themes and metaphors presented in the show often causes older viewers to become fans. If this sounds at all interesting to you, try watching these (second one is my personal favorite). Keep in mind that the Ice king's memory loss is a metaphor for Alzheimer's disease. 1 seekcartoon.com/watch/2698-adventure-time-season-3-ep-10ab-holly-jolly-secrets.html#.UgZ5G_K9KK12 www.watchonlinecartoons.net/adventure-time/watch-adventure-time-episode-25-season-4-i-remember-you3 www.watchcartoononline.com/adventure-time-season-5-episode-14-simon-and-marcy

One of my child is watching it, but I'm finding that a little hard sometimes for children. A little to dark.

If it helps any, I often find the stuff that might have been called too dark for kids back when is the stuff I still remember and love as an adult, even if some of it scared me then. Scary and intense can be fun sometimes, because stories you know it'll be okay in the end and it's not real. Not that I advocate scaring kids in a mean way! More that scary in fiction can be fun and also part of learning, processing, and/or coping.
And I remember being frustrated by stories that were too unrealistically "oh no, it's okay, magically there are no consequences to anything nobody dies lalalala" and shied away from things. They felt...patronizing? I don't like the SUPER GRIM AND DARK trend and I hate it when writers think adding more war/death/whatever automatically makes things a better story, but dangit, don't talk down to kid viewers either, even while you're presenting stuff at their level.
From what little I've seen Adventure Time looks like it's good at that kind of balance and at having multiple layers of story and meaning. I really need to see more of it...

Yeah, I agree, Tilly. I used to watch GI Joe as a kid and thought, "considering the nature of the show, the infirmary should be doing a LOT more business!" It ended up being a joke that every time a jet or helicopter got shot you always saw the crew parachute out. At least they could have gone to the trouble of showing a realistic ejection seat!
