Here's my entry for this year's ZPCC.
Warbird
Terror Bird Type
Battle story
Don’t let the comical colors fool you, as the name connotes, this is a complete war machine. Even without its CAS upgrades, the Zoid itself already packs a powerful punch. It can engage in both close and long range combat, with its impressive array of long range weaponry from missiles, to a Charged Particle Cannon; medium range cannons and guns, to its up close and personal blades, and beak.
With its long legs, it can run down most ground units and with one kick or beak strike, disable them. Though flightless, it is capable of quick bursts of speed and agility. The booster unit increases not only its speed and agility, it also doubles as an extra weapon and defense system. While the wings carry a load of multi-role missiles, the booster unit has laser cannons primarily used against aerial attack.
Inspiration
Equipment and Armament:
Charged particle cannon – tail with stability lock
2x Long range missiles – rear facing at the wings
2x2 medium range missiles wings
2x2 short range missiles wings
2 medium range shock cannons
2 missile pods
1 x medium range gun
2 x leg blades
Reinforced claws and beak
Tail booster
2 x head radar units
CAS-
Booster unit – shield with booster and 2 x anti-air laser cannons
Leg and feet armor
Telescopic lance, with piercing and cutting edges
Assault guns, with armor

Basic unit without CAS weapons, boosters and leg armor
With the Charged particle cannon deployed. It doesn’t need additional foot-locks as the gun faces the rear and its actual feet act serve the same purpose.
The build
This is one of, if not the most ambitious build I’ve ever done.
Nearly every component of the Zoid itself involved serious scratch building. Hence, the parts are somewhat customs in themselves, so they can actually be taken apart. The head and wings took weeks to finish and had many revisions, before I was finally happy with them.
Actually, the top canopy still opens, but I just think it was more fun to open from the bottom as well, so ther are 2 ways for the pilot to get in. Also, as you will see in the build photos, the head was quite different and the canopy used to be fixed. I ended up scrapping the crest.
The CPC for the tail developed from an idea of making it into a beefed up Gunsniper. But when I ran into Daniel (Darth Daniel), at the PI Toy convention, he suggested that I make the tail do more than just straighten out as a gun. Hence, I made the telescopic barrel, and to justify why the feathers would open, I made it act as a stability lock.
Afterwards, it sort of developed from there.
As to the color scheme, the only thing I was sure about from the get-go was orange as it’s the 2012 color of the year. Then I ultimately settled on blue as a complimentary color. Originally, it was darker, but I decided to lighten it out so It’ll look better on camera.
It will likely take some time before my next serious custom because this really ate up a lot of my family time.
Darth on,
