I, for one, thought it was a stunning movie. It answers some questions that have been lingering since the first alien movie, and brings about new stories and plotlines. What are your thoughts on it?

Just saw it at IMAX 3D with my wife. Without posting any spoilers, I thought it was a good, solid film and, like you said, filled in some gaps and left you asking new questions. For us, the 3D really was a bad point about the movie. Perhaps 5 minutes of footage benefits from the technology, another 5 minutes was actually made worse by it (at one point I had seen many people take off the glasses and even avert their eyes from the screen with me, and it wasn't even to the scary stuff yet!) I would rather have seen the movie in good ol' 2D IMAX, myself.
If someone is going to go, I would suggest that they try to pick up on and remember subtle things (who, what, when, and where) that link to Alien and Aliens, and also to track the events in Prometheus. Our little group had to have a round about session afterwords with a lot of, "did you notice this?" and "oh, I though that happened to ____, not _____! That makes more sense, now!"
Go and enjoy the ride!

Yeah, I saw it in 2D, not IMAX though. I usually find 3D in movies to be underwhelming, only a few can pull it off well. Prometheus is one of those movies that just gets better and better the more you think about it and understand the implications of even the smallest things. It's a very thoughtful movie that tackles some pretty big life questions, and does so well.
Another thing to take into consideration when seeing the movie is to acknowledge it as a separate film from the Alien franchise. Yes, it takes place in the same universe, and yes, it answers some unanswered questions from the original film, but it is a strong standalone title nonetheless. I've heard of some people being disappointed by the movie because they expected it to be like Alien. Once you can remove that lens from your perspective, you can truly appreciate Prometheus for what it is.

Okay, my brother sent this to my wife and I yesterday. My suggestion: see the movie, then, read this article. It shows you that Ridley Scott had a hell of a lot more depth than you might think, and that Promethius is a far deeper movie than it seemed. Promethius: Unbound

Wow, that's very thoughtful and insightful. I had been thinking of the implications of the title itself, but couldn't come to understand anything from it. That article nails it. One thing I didn't understand was
SPOILERS
LOOK AWAY NOW
THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE
The alien head that explodes. In the article, the author says it's some form of self-sacrifice, and that it had expressions of disgust etc. Well, it seemed like it had strange expressions just because of how it was revived, and possibly how it had met it's end. I'm not sure I understand the significance in that scene, the author of that article mentioned it only a little and even then, it didn't make much sense to me.
END OF SPOILERS

Yeah, that scene kinda reminded me of a similar one in Cloverfield... with the same reaction. Okay, nice shock value, but that seemed to be all it was for. For me it didn't fit within the ecology of the organism. I think in that case Scott was trying to make a dramatic point/reference, and felt like he did so at the expense of the established life cycle. Kinda like Matrix; first movie was great but the others were only good because the brothers tried too hard to meet all the deeper referenced conjectured by the fans. They lost the feel of what was going on in the "real world" for the sake of trying to appear more philosophical than they really were.
See?! No spoilers!

Yeah that's exactly what it was. Seemed pretty irrelevant to what was going on in the movie.
I can't wait to see what will come up in sequels, if Ridley Scott chooses to make them. He can very easily continue with more movies, at least 1 more, but this movie was so strong on its own that I don't know if Scott will want to make more, he even said himself that this movie was made to be an individual title. Still, with everything that Prometheus opens up, all the subtleties and implications that are still being uncovered by moviegoers, I think having a sequel would be appreciated by the fans of the movie. I for one am rooting for a sequel.
