I was just wondering if anyone else feels a sentimental connection to their Zoids model kits. I have been collecting them since I was like 7 and every single one of them is special to me. When I was 7, I got the Hasbro red Blade Liger and I fell in love with him. I even gave him a name: Blaze. Since then I've gotten many new model kits but none of them have been like Blaze except for my blue Command Wolf which I got when I was about 7 too. I named him Sid. Call me childish but I feel a connection with my collection. I don't think I'll ever sell any of them no matter how broken or beaten up they get.

Some of them I do... others I just kinda collected because, well, they were Zoids. I bought a few because there was a long dry spell and seeing one tucked away in a comic book shop was really nostalgic. The ones I have the most sentiment for, by far, are my original "white head" Zoids. They are OAR, and I remember taking over my older brother's paper route so I could buy them. I can't see selling them off, either. In fact, I just bought my family a new house and I've started renovating the garage into my Zoid display & customizing shop.

Sentiment towards my collection seems to come from different places. Some are my childhood toys. Like my Transformers, a couple of Joes and MASK. Most stuff I bought after that has sentimental value because of the stories behind them. Here are some of them. Getting an Optimus Prime from a kid in the neighbourhood that had it lying around. At a fair going through a box of toys finding a Transformers Kickback for a dime. A lot of my Transformers have stories like this. Buying a small lot from someone. He found another robot which was worth more than the entire lot. Most recently the 13 zoids I bought in this pile of stuff. Didn't even know there were zoids in it.
And the satisfaction cleaning them, making them mine. That does a great deal of giving anything sentimental value.

Yeah, there's something about getting something rare or making a find that give a great feeling. That's how I got some of my kits; OJR Deadborder and OJR Dimetrodon from a local kid, buying a triple whammy at a comic store; Ice Blazer, Gul TIber, and Descat, all OJR. Sometimes you just get lucky!
Of course other times you just happen to have $350 in cash (Sturm Tyrann)... but those days are gone for the foreseeable future!

I know how ya feel when it comes to sentiment. I have soo much sentimental value for my genosaurer. he wasn't my first zoid. but he was always my favorite. it was a truly a dream come true when i found him in japan. it was the only one on the shelf. It was destiny!!!! i love it.

I feel a lot of sentiment towards my Raynos. Sure, he's missing over half of his pieces and has several broken parts, but he's all I have of my older collection from back in the day.
Terox also holds a lot of sentiment as the Zoid that got me into the hobby, though I never saw one completely built up in person until I found mine. I wish I could've gotten the head pieces to that first one though; my cousin modded it as a light-up clutch handle!
It seems kinda silly, but a few months back, I tried to bring myself to sell some of my Zoids, but couldn't bring myself to do it. Selling even one would feel like selling a part of myself that I would never be able to get back.....

That's how sentiment works, alright. I have some melted caps from a failed dying experiment years ago, and I still figure I can use them for something! After all... they are part of my collection, right? ... Okay, maybe I'm in need of therapy.
Thank goodness I've matured to the point where I can replace caps with hardware from the local hardware store!

Why not build a Zoid that I KNOW you have lying around somewhere that is missing parts; and put those caps on it. Just like you have "battle damaged" Gundams and DBZ characters, you could have a "battle damaged" custom Zoid? I know that you can pull it off, and I'd love to see pic's of it.

Problem is those particular caps not only melted... they SHRUNK! I actually did use one not long ago, but as a "stopper" inside an articulated weapon, so the barrel wouldn't fall out. I like the idea of having battle damaged Zoids, too... it's either that or I part-bin them.
Come to think of it, I think the only piece of a Zoid that left my possession was the golden pilot seat/eyes of an Evil Pegasus, because I had two of them and a friend got one that was missing that piece. Other than that, especially NJR, all parts go in the box for customs.

Choose your favorite Zoid of the ones in your part bin, and show us what you got. I mean... you built that abomination from 20,000 leagues under the sea from scratch right???

What, this ol' thang? Yeah, I can probably find a way to use them. For now I just want to finish the abomination covering my entire work area!

Absolutely. Sentiment is what brought me back. I loved the show growing up and it was one of my constants (I moved around a lot as a kid, from London to California was the big one at 7) and I used it as cultural adjustment. All of my guy friends came from me liking Pokemon, Digimon, Transformers or later Zoids. Zoids were my favorite because I loved military stuff and animals.
Now nearing the end of my undergrad in college, Zoids(show or model building) are a sort of calming exercise for me amidst my midterms, finals and any grown up responsibilities(telling your asian parents you have a gf, after they LOVED your ex boyfriend of 4yrs isn't that much fun). Wanting a Liger Zero as a kid led me to hunt for an unbuilt one. Now I have a decent collection of "yet-to-builds" and I prefer that to clubbing, drinking excessively and doing drugs. Also, I'm a film major with goals to reboot the show. We'll see about that one :]
Woo sidetracked - I'm obsessed with my Liger Zero. He was missing 2 crucial parts but I got them thanks to Aardwulf and Chuckles. His paint is discolored but he'll be complete soon and he just reminds me of my innocent childhood. I can't stop looking at him. He's currently just a body/head and one leg.
