OK, I'm hoping this is the right forum so... hi.
Basically I had no interest in Zoids when the anime was being shown here and Hasbro had the license. I didn't like the anime and still don't, but my friend got me interested a few weeks ago. tl;dr, I now have six Zoids built with two coming in the mail. I've got about ten years of Gundam model experience and I consider these a bit of a "break" from gluing/painting all my Gunpla.
So my question is... what Zoids should I not be without? So far, I have Gordos, Dimetrodon, Saicurtis, Gojulas Giga, Elephander, and Gorhecks, with King Liger and Gustav coming in the mail this week.

first off, welcome to Pheno's!
you've got some good pieces to start with, so I'd recommend the basics : a Shield Liger is basically standard issue collection fodder, and there's about a billion variants to choose from. Also, a konig Wolf is a good model with a nice style to it. Snipe Master is a personal favorite, while Iron Kong and Gojulas have their own share of followers.
And, if you're into intricate detail, check out the Kotobukiya series of HMM zoids.

Thought I gotta say, I'm not terribly interested in the HMM kits. I like the motors-they kinda kill them for me, I guess? Plus, I see Zoids as being my "break" for Gundam kits.

Saw this post and thought I might comment.
First, welcome to Pheno and the world of zoids. I started to collect both zoids and gundams and now collecting a few of armored core kits. Anyhow, this is about u and so far, collecting zoids is a big step, yet, a great step u took in the world of collection. I, personally feel that once u like gundam u gotta love zoids. That's just me. U asked about what zoids u should have? Well, u should definetly get the star\hero zoids of the anime, if u starting to like em. Example - Ligerzero and 3 armore parts, Blue blade liger and the Murasame and its evolutions. Then if u want to take it further go for the second heroes. It's really up to you no matter how u put it, just a suggestion, or u can find a specific type and start collecting those. As for HMM, u said u wanted a break, I guess u mean from to much work as in MGs and yes building an HMM is just as time consuming as MGs. Just don't let that stop you from enjoying them though. I gotta say HMM has me looking at zoids in a whole new way.
Once again, welcome and nice to see more female fans.

Hello, new person!
My personal recs...hrm.
Salamander, for glorious engineering. It's one of the only Zoids to fully lift its feet, and pretty much all of it is in motion when it's switched on. A Gilvader variant for the same engineering reason. Be warned, though, they're horrible shelf space hogs. Ultrasaurus, if you have the space. It's huge but not overcomplex, and really fun in motion. A Horn variant, because they're compact, easy to build, and pleasingly stompy. Rayse or Brastle Tiger. I prefer Rayse for the lights and such, but both are cats with something different going on. Valga, for being the best new windup by miles in my opinion, assuming you get one that works right. Some like to get stuck on their backs D:. Whatever small windups tickle your fancy (there's too many to mention, and almost all of them do something unique)
...you already have Gordos and Gorhecks, and you've got Gustav incoming (aka "endless amusement in pulling heavy objects"). Otherwise I'd mention them too!
It seems everybody ends up with a Liger Zero variation (or fifty), and if you don't mind the SO MANY VERSIONS thing it's one of the better Liger kits. Command Wolf is nice too, silly walk or not.
And I'm the same way with the motors. I just am...not that big into really complex models, I like simpler but rewarding things I can build in a sitting and then watch wander around.

So my question is... what Zoids should I not be without? Whichever one is your favorite.

Good points, all... and HI!!! It really does depend on your interests. If you are looking for kits that are un-Gundam-like, perhaps collect things more like Deathpion, Seismosaurus, or Sledgehead. Really, I would visit someplace like Zi Matrices and look over the kits for one that strikes your fancy. If you like the big, intricate builds, I think everyone should find an Ultrasaurus!

Thanks everyone for the words, and thanks Maethius for the Zi Matrices link! That place is going to be pretty useful.
I really want to get an Ultrasaurus and classic Gojulas someday but it's so hard to find. D: I'm pretty sure I'd love to build it. I've got more stuff coming soon, like a Gun Tiger and Deathsaurer from Toy-Wave, a Demantis from eBay, and an Orudios, Lidier, and Gul Tiger from Amazon.jp thanks to a friend overseas. Might get a Shield Liger from HLJ with their sale. I think I'm obsessed now. :x
