Well, as requested here's some pics of the little bugger who, through the odd twists of fate I originally ended up with 2 of them. Sold one off promptly and kept the other. This guy is fairly hard to come by and never shows up on ebay anymore too often. Thus, one must resort to YHJ and the like where they come up infrequently. The day I went hunting there were actually 2-3 of them, and so I took my pick of them. Then ken at toywave found me one and I got stuck with two xD Previously their worth a few years ago back when they were released was quite low, $45 or so at the most, now the price has gone up a bit and so had the demand oddly enough. You couldn't give it away before and now suddenly all the collectors want them. Very odd. You can still get one for $40-60 on YHJ before shipping and middleman fees. Once in a while they go higher though, as muchas like 9000 yen I saw on one.
Anyhow, this little guyw as released in either 2001 or 2003, the correct year escapes me currently. It was sold as special "zoid shops" that had it commissioned from tomy along with the gold and silver blox zoids that came out bundeled together at that time as well as the SCV Clear Black Genosaurer.
The SCV ("Special Color Version") Gold Saber Tiger is a fairly standard limited edition, being a mere recolor bundeled with a CP. No special stickers, and the box is monochrome grey with art recycled from the standard CP 02 and saber tiger packages. Albeit I LIKE the monochrome grey and I think it's quite distinctive and pretty. As the name implies, the tiger is gold colored and comes with a black CP 02. The gold is more flat than bright shiny OMG glossy gold. It's a rather unusual color in fact, unlike any other zoid except maybe the gold leoblaze and co, and wavers between ugly and nifty in my opinion. It's nothing like cheese whitz, but rather a paler, washed out color with a distinct pearlescent sheen. It's gold, but a pale one, reminding me somewhat of butterscotch. Note that because I have to crank my camera's exposure up, it toys with the color a little. The actual color is a little less yellow and a little more tannish.
Unlike nearly every other saber tiger variant, this boy comes with gold colored claws and teeth, a trait shared only with the zoids 2 saber to my knowledge. Thusly a parts swap can be achieved with shield liger to make a slightly more accurate anime version.
And interestingly enough, the CP 02 is moulded tight enough that the mortar launcher can stand up unaided just like the reissued great saber's.
Aside fro mthe color and CP, it's just another saber tiger and rather uninteresting otherwise. If you're not a completionist or saber tiger enthusiastic, then I don't reccomend this one for you, not for the effort required to obtain one. It's a solid zoid though, and for a limited the price isn't *too* out there, so I give it good marks.
If anyone's wondering, the battery case is a screw type one. I was just faintly hoping that it might be a slip cover, but no such luck. Darn. Guess I got spoiled on DCS-J's. Now my kitty colection is complete for all the normal versions. I already have a reddish tiger, no need for the OJR skye unless of course you're buying. I am debating though if I like the ghost tiger one enough to go after it. I've never seen a mint one, and I really want to build it myself...
Oh, and I suppose I could do a group shot of my kitties if anyone wanted
The best shot I could get to show off his pearly sheen:
