I really like the new design! I myself addicted to web designing, I have had designed many sites and change my site's layout very often ^^! Heres a suggestion, not necessary useful or important, just my opinion =]:
- The Menu bar that goes across the banner, try to do it somehow that it stays within the banner width, it would looks much better rather cut right in the middle of the banner. And maybe re-locate it abit lower. And maybe redesign the menu bar with a background with buttons.
And the rest looks pretty stunning to me, I myself can't even do that nice, I'm more like the lazy type that use WordPress, Joomla, and recreate templates to use ^^. I love what you did to it! Especially the sliding images menu =]!

With the backround added it will look awesome. I think its really cool. =D Not sure what you mean, there already is a background. And maybe re-locate it abit lower. And maybe redesign the menu bar with a background with buttons. I might try that, the main reason I have it extending out so far right now is for people with their monitors set at a high resolution. At work we have 24" HD monitors set at 1600x1200. Since the actual content area is only 800 pixels wide that leaves an entire 400 pixels of nothing but repeating background on each side. That's why I broke it up into 3 distinct sections with 3 backgrounds, so it it helps fill out the unused space.

One thing that does annoy me about some websites is their size being beyond the width of my monitor making me scroll across nearly every time I want to do something. Please make it fit my screen /Plea

Please make it fit my screen Right now it looks great on any monitor that's set for 1024x768 or higher, if you have yours set lower than that I can't really help. It's very difficult to try and make something look good across all resolutions and since nobody's really designing for anything below 1024x768 these days I opted to start there.

I was just commenting cause you were still tweaking. I'm not really sure why some of those sites feel the need to go that wide (I'm 1024x768) but it does annoy me. And no, I don't need bifocals . . . yet.

I feel for Pheno on the monitor size... My normal resolution is 1600, and I never tune it down below 1024.

Accomodating weird screen sizes is going to become *more* important as mobile crap with actual web browsing (hi iPhone) catches on, imo. Besides, even if I had a huge screen I wouldn't go making my browser window much bigger than I have it now -- I have things to do other than devoting all of my monitor space just to seeing a website.
<3 fluid layouts. The can be such a bastard to get going, but I'd feel funny making anything else.

The can be such a bastard to get going, but I'd feel funny making anything else. I knew you'd have something to say in response to my screen resolution comment. You're right in a sense. Fluid layouts are much more important when it comes to text driven sites like blogs or wikipedia, sites where the content mainly consists of photos (like mine) really have their work cut out for them. We're at a strange crossroads in web design right now where larger monitors and higher resolutions are becoming the norm, freeing a lot of designers from the constrains of smaller sites. At the same time however we're seeing mobile devices like iPhone and Blackberry's cropping up everywhere with decent web browsing capabilites and a lot of designers are struggling with who they should be designing for. Do you sacrifice a great layout to make it display correctly on smaller screens or do you consider the fact that probably only 1-5% of your visitors are using such devices and basically say they're "S.O.L."? Some designers are choosing to go for a fluid layout that looks somewhat decent across all resolutions. I'm choosing to go for a semi-fluid layout that looks good on nearly all resolutions except 800x600 or cell phones/PDA's because to me it's more important to have a site that will look great for 95% of my visitors than a site that will just look good for 100% of my visitors. I don't expect everyone to agree but this is what's most important to me.

Haven't had a chance to comment yet, but I am really liking the previews so far. Your redesigns always inspire and motivate me to work on my site and improve what I can I'm choosing to go for a semi-fluid layout that looks good on nearly all resolutions except 800x600 or cell phones/PDA's because to me it's more important to have a site that will look great for 95% of my visitors than a site that will just look good for 100% of my visitors. I don't expect everyone to agree but this is what's most important to me. Considering your site's content and audience, this is the best way to go. The main thing here is pictures. It doesn't make sense to be looking up zoid pictures on a tiny screen. That 5% can wait til they get home to their computers to check it out.

Looks really good. But I feel like you are being too "safe" in your designs. This is just the radical do-something-crazy graphical design in me that screams for the outrageous and flamboyant. But really, your site looks great. Nice and clean.

I build a layout and then worry about any images involved, so there's no chance of me sacrificing a design over screen resolution. Then again, I'm the sort to get wibbly over a simplistic but wonderful text-only design more than graphics, so we're probably at cross-puposes XD. For people who like looking at pretty examples of CSS stuff: www.csszengarden.com/It's a bit hypnotising, somehow, to poke through all the different layouts made of the same HTML and different CSS. *drifting off topic*

I prefer the new layout over the existing one. It's less busy and makes navigating the website easier
Cheers
