How about this, since the acquisition board is gone, make a new thread on Model Kits section, and pin it, who ever want to put link to their LJ or Flickr or their personal page post there, and Mod or Admin can edit the first post to collect all these links on it, so its easier for people to get around, or else its hard to visit someone site by tracking them down on what thread they post so they can click on the sig link. Dont you think this is better?

there are but 3 sections i frequent here... members collection, customs threads, and the tips/wips/etc... hohum.
i may be quilty of posting my non-zoid collections... but thats the fun in it... i believe the collection thread isnt about quantity, price, rarity... its individuality... i can have the same exact zoid collection as another but still different... of course we can say that you can customize, review a kit, make your own site, make a fanzine... but not all can or wants or have the capacity (pardon me) to do those...
so what if zoids are down... we are still here... if threads are getting too off-topiced, cant we just move it to a sub-board under break room?
the bottom line is... what ties us all together are our collections...
of course i know this will not bring the thread back... just voicing my thoughts... farewell collections thread..

I wasn't going on the collection board (after the story of the acquisition board, I deceided not to go there). But my thoughts are that there are less and less possibilities to show our Zoids here. The alternate solution of putting the collection on a blog or something like that, why not, but do you think we are going to stop by 20 blogs every day to pay a visit to everyone ? There will be in the end very less exchanges between us about our toys. A funny oddity is coming to my mind. No acquisition of collection board about Zoids, but it is still possible for any other toy line on the break room. A little contradiction here no ?
Well, before you throw me something at the head, I'm not saying you are doing a bad work or something like that, and I'm not trying to make you change your mind, I know anyway it is useless. You rule the forum, you can do the changes you want. But I was needing to react.

I never particularly liked or disliked the Collections Section. Some of it was kinda interesting, but I'm not going to lose sleep cos its gone. And while its nice to get comments on various collections, some of the threads did turn into long chats. I think the idea of putting a link in your sig is a good idea, as you don't need to "bump" it each time it updates, like on the Seller's Threads if you simply state: "My Collection Updated 30 April 2007" or something.
I am a little confused about moving the Review Section. I don't really see the point of "hiding" it in a sub-board. I don't see how that saves room, and just means you have an extra click or two to get to it. I'm glad the rule on duplicates is gone, but I've always kinda ignored it, and used the general rule: If its not on the first two pages, you can create a new thread.
One thing I'd like to see is the News split into Headlines and Comments. Since I know next to nothing about website design, I have no idea how difficult it would be, but I think it would be clearer to have one Front Page (that maybe only Mods could edit) then a seperate section where people could give their thoughts and opinions on that news.
For example, maybe seperate headlines for: New Zoids Motor, First Pics of mini Gojulas, Better pics of ZED-1, etc. This would make new news & pics easier to spot, rather than being buried somewhere on page 7, etc.
Thats probably more than two cents, but there you go.

I don't really agree with any of the reasons stated for removing the collections board, except somewhat for the one about non-zoids appearing. I always enjoyed seeing interesting photos of other people's collections. The multi-photo posts got a little tedious, but when somebody to the time to share something worth sharing, that was cool.
I never feel that people are showing off about how much money they can afford to spend, because for me the investment of time required to build a zoid is well in excess of the monetary investment. This applies even more for custom zoids - a customised Evil Pegasus generally represents more time commitment than it does money, so I just wind up respecting the time put in.
But here's the real kicker - I'm not even slightly upset the board is gone. I'd much rather see people put interesting pictures of zoids in their signatures than have to wade though a bunch of posts to see a collection mostly made up of the same old zoids I've seen a squillion times before.
I know that it can feel like betrayal to have something you liked taken away, even when that thing cost you nothing and required somebody else to do lots of work. I'd feel really annoyed if Penny Arcade got rid of the comic strips and instead sold cheese online.
BUT...
I would imagine that the people who made the decision know a whole lot more than me about what the repercussions are likely to be. They've all been here a lot longer than I, and are active in other fan forums. They made the decision. Chances are that it was the correct one.
And resorting posts by hand? We love you so much!

I am not going take sides on this issue. First, all users, including yours truly, have signed up on this forum voluntary, meaning nobody besides the admin own this forum. The admin can make the rules, you can agree or not, and you have the choice to jump on to another forum if you don't like this one. There are other Zoids fansite that let you post your latest purchase, or your own collections, you can join them if you want to do so; I am also a member of another Zoids' forum that let you doing the following above.
Second and last, although I don't have a website of own, I know people who have their own website or blog. And believe me, they say it ain't easy to maintain one, especially if one is about personal interests not about profit. Rather bashing the admin/mod on this forum, why not thank them for the work they have done in the previous years. Try creating and maintaining (which includes updating the content) a website for a whole year before bashing anyone here.
That's all I have to say, the decision is already made, so everyone should leave it as it is now, and determine for your own if you want to stay on this forum or go to another.

Thanks for nice words from the positive & chill folks.
I do want to emphasize that even though we decide how everything runs here, it isn't an evil guylos dictatorship ruled by an iron fist. If I had one, it would be rusty and and broken after moving all those posts by hand, one by one. Ow.
If anybody else knows of other options on collection displaying sites or methods, let us know.

first of all i want to thank all the admins for the hard work they've been doing. i think as Members, whether we like the decisions or not, should at least show some appreciation, instead of calling the admins irrespectful for not asking our opinions first. a lot of things work around principles... say, if i were a zoids and elmo fan, and i asked 3001 elmo fans to join this board, can they vote to have this board's title changed to omlet's elmo forum? a good solution would probably be something similar to the current decisions—outside services connected by us through our ties and links on sigs etc. also, think about the structure of the board... the admins are also technicians and moderators and sponsors and everything... the board has to be modified from time to time for it to remain reasonably manageable—and what is reasonable isn't decided by Members. worst case scenario: if the admins don't care to make periodic reviews and changes like this one to the board for too long, it becomes too unmanageable, one option for them is to close down the board. i do think we owe the admins some appreciations and encouragements. some sections of the board are gone, and that's certainly a loss. we all understand that some of us weigh it more heavily than the others do... i liked the collection board a lot too, i enjoyed seeing all the interesting items there... but at this time i think we should spend more of our energy looking for a good alternative and discuss as a community which works and which doesn't (and any alternative is more likely to give everyone more freedom than what we used to have with the collection board). just that we all have to get used to the changes... btw i really admire how Alteka and Tilly handled the situation

OK, so i logged in, and i'm looking for the MEMBERS COLLECTION section and their is none, i check in the forum news section and damn oh freakkinn damn-NO MEMBERS COLLECTION, u people are crazy, sorry i hope i don't get a warning for this. Seriously i understand the thing with the collection section is for showing off zoids only and yes i did get carried away with posting my gundams as well, i mean i'm wrong and if i can't read hey, but i never saw anything saying display zoids only. Now, i see we have an option with the sig link thingy good but not enough, i think how it was is how it should be, it's easier for members to veiw one another collection with a section for it alone, at least thats how i feel. Also with the sig thing many members don't really see stuff like that, i mean thats like 50% of the reason why i come to this forum to veiw others what they have just makes it more fun and not to mention this is like a support for keeping we zoiders to continue to buy more zoids. The fact that some of us never seen one zoid ep. but we have like over 100 zoid kits WHY? cause we all love mechs and the feel for them gives us this adrenaline rush that only we mech lovers can explain. So for the love of god PLEASE! i'm begging bring back that section, at least if it has to be only for zoids,u can say this section is for posting zoids collection only failer to do so thread will be deleted and hey we can use the sig thingy for othe collections like gundams for those who are intersted. It's all in the promotion people, with out this section we will start to lose interst in zoids and soon no one will buy zoids anymore and it will be gone forever, just like in the past. Other than that we can get over it, but not me cause before i started to post my collection on this furom i swear that i started to loose interest in my zoids collection cause i felt lonely and thinking that since no cares about them in my family then hey, at least for the gundams it's different cause they are still strong. sorry for the little story. but seriously i'm not arguing but please put this thread back on, and i'm sorry if i missed anything else from the other pages, but when i read the first page i went berzerk. *hope i don't get a warning for this, i won't right .

I'd just like to point out that this forum is 3 and a half years old and the Member Collections board is rather new, not even a year old. So I certainly don't think this forum is going to die just because we removed one board, it's thrived in the past without that board and it will continue to do just fine without it now.
Personally I can't even imagine what all of the fuss is about. I never visited that board myself and I can't imagine anything more boring than looking through poorly taken pictures of Zoids so common your grandmother has them. If somebody's got something rare they should post a review of it, otherwise who cares?
Some of you need a reality check, this is a TOY FORUM, I think you're taking it a bit to seriously.

Would it help if I made a basic template for a gallery page with commented out code that could be customized and uploaded to any free host, or a guide to Flickr and LJ? Both of the latter are VERY easy to get a basic setup going on, but there's a lot of fun things you can do beyond that.
Also, Lionel - if people host collections on Flickr, LJ, or anywhere else that does RSS feeds, you can use Firefox/IE 7/a feed reader to get all the things you subscribe to live in one neat blob. That's actually *easier* to follow than a board, in my opinion. I've not mucked with feeds much personally...but I'm willing to learn more for a guide's sake.

Well, I'm going to be making my own zoids forum. I've had it planned for some time. So I shall compensate for this loss, but I will still attend phenotype's forum. I'm handling this passively.

I posted a link to my Flickr Zoid set in my sig. See it? it's the Japanese characters. (They mean "Kaelin's Zoids.") See? It's not hard! ;D On another note: Aww. The Ask the Staff thingy is gone. I liked reading those. ;-; Well, I'm going to be making my own zoids forum. I've had it planned for some time. So I shall compensate for this loss, but I will still attend phenotype's forum. I'm handling this passively. Good luck with that. I've never had a particular success with making my own forums, but maybe you can.
