I happen to be found of a group called Nightwish. they do what can best be described as operetic rock. Think Craddle of Filth, but with a female opera singer doing the vocals. (atleast that's what every one keeps telling me.)

I am tempted to either lock this thread or sticky it. Grrrrr. Five minutes later: OK I stickied it so hopefully there won't be another one NEXT month On topic, today I listened to Mudhoney's "grunge" classic, Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge. Like most old people, I'm stuck liking the music I liked when I was in college (for the most part).

Being a musician and an admitted music-snob this post may be rather long, apologies in advance. I think most people here know I primarily listen to Industrial, Drum'n'Bass, and Heavy Metal/Hard Rock. I do like a lot of other types of music though ranging from trip-hop to alternative rock, to classical, to pop. The only music I really can't get into is Country and top 40 Rap and R&B. I'm not a big fan of Indie Rock or Emo either but I don't have anything against people who like it, it's just not for me. I also don't care for Classic Rock very much, not because I think it's bad but mainly because I've heard all those damn songs SO many times. There's way too many bands and artists for me to list but my taste is pretty diverse. I think yesterday while I was working I listened to "Vapor Transmission" by Orgy, followed by "Confessions on a Dancefloor" by Madonna, followed by "Archetype" by Fear Factory. Today was "Flyleaf" by Flyleaf, followed by all of the B-Sides off all 4 of Garbage's albums (took forever to compile them all), and I finished up the workday with Gene Serene's album "Genesis", which I highly recommend if you like Electro Punk. Two nights ago, while making dinner, Bethany and I listened to "Heart in Motion" by Amy Grant and last night I played "Demanufacture" by Fear Factory, much to the dismay of our neighbors I'm sure. So, as you can see my musical tastes are pretty much all over the place but with the 3 styles I mentioned first being the most popular in my CD collection. ;D -Pheno

I don't know or care what it qualiflies as, I listen to what I like. A good deal of my tastes can be blamed on my dad's CD collection, followed by the radio and people I know going "you have to hear this".
It seems radio stations always play the same couple hits by older bands, ignoring all the other good stuff they've done. It drives me nuts to hear, say, U2 mentioned and ALWAYS get the same couple songs from The Joshua Tree.

Tilly-- about U2, I am with you. I wish they'd play Gloria or Wire or New Years Day or something. I still think it's weird that they're on the classic rock station now. Also weird: I like the stuff from them that was out when I was in highschool (joshua tree and before), and my MOM likes their latest stuff....
ANYWAY, now that this thread is going to be around for a while, here's a mostly complete list of every band/artist I like more than a couple songs from:
10000 Maniacs, 764-HERO, Laurel Aitken, The Arcade Fire, The Beatles, Bedhead, B!tch Magnet, Black Sabbath, Blue Trapeze, Boards of Canada, Cake, The Carter Family, Johnny Cash, Centaur, Cheap Trick, The Choir, The Church, The Clash, Bruce Cockburn, The Coctails, Coheed and Cambria, John Coltrane, The Cure, Daniel Amos, Desmond Dekker, Dianogah, Doctor Octagon, Don Caballero, Bob Dylan, Failure, Floraline, Fugazi, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Gosling, Guadalcanal Diary, The Hives, Honcho Overload, The Housemartins, Hum, Hushtower, The Jayhawks, Joy Division, Joyful Sorrow, Yoko Kanno/Seatbelts, King Crimson, The Kinks, Kraftwerk, Kronos Quartet, Lali Puna, John Lennon, Ted Leo/Pharmacists, Loudermilk, Love Cup, Low, Macha, Massive Attack, M.I.A., Misk Heavy Manufacturing Concern, Modest Mouse, Ms John Soda, Mudhoney, My Bloody Valentine, A.C. Lately, I've been digging into my "Real Rhapsody" which has proved the best thing i could get for my money for the past... 2 years. Anyways, I'm into rock, in general, and some alternative, a little pop (mainly punk-pop) and theres always a little rap... just a little.
My favorite music is written by Jack Johnson, and sung by him too. Therefore, I'm into Jack Johnson. For any of you who don't know him, try it. He sings the kinda music you would love for chillin. Its awesome, and he's got an awesome voice.
I like Sum 41, Greenday, Panic! At the Disco, Weezer, all the popular stuff. I like it all. The only things I'm not into are Heavy Metal (I don't like screaming) and Rap (i like it occasionaly). Anything taht basically premises those... not for me, but occasionally, things change.

*plots to raid Hidocker's CD collection* I'm too lazy to list stuff, so have the playlist of CDs I've copied from my own stuff/family members/Bonnie's U2 swarm, plus a few random things like TV rips: www.creativeinsanity.net/stuff/randomplaylist.htmlFavorites shouldn't be hard to pick out, though there's a lot more I like that's not on there...
