You might want to look up "parody" in the dictionary. SEED does have many similarities with the original show but that's intentional. It is by no means a parody. -Phenotype So it lacks a humorus aspect needed to technically be a parody. I thought the term was more fitting than rip-off...can someone rip-off their own work? Parallel would probably work better.

It's a Rip off, Tomino wrote the OG Gundam he didn't write SEED. Technically Bandai owns it all, but the same people didn't work on it. *shrugs* re-tread, parallel, rip off, homage whatever you wanna call it. But I agree parody doesn't work very well...........

If you're gonna rip off something, might as well rip off from the best ;D

*shrug* the only thing that makes the origenal Gundam good is that it's the origenal. For it's time, it's great. By today's standards...ow. I like some of the later spin-offs and sequils better.

That's part of why Toonami was planning on pulling it-today's kids just can't appreciate it. (I'm only 16, but I'm referring to the Dragonball Z obsessed 10-year-old who probably hated MSG because it looked like crap) Plot apparently does not sell a show anymore; which is why DBZ is so popular, probably.

That's what I don't get. Dragonball began in 1986, the animation is just as awful as MSG's yet DBZ has done so much better in the states than MSG. You're right about plot not selling a show, I've seen about 4 or 5 episodes of DBZ and there was no coherent plot. -Phenotype

Dragonball Z has a coherent plot. It just drags on for so long you don't care any more. As for kids not liking the original MSG, well, I have a 10 year old cousin who does. Guess he's in the minority.

Oh, well then, um, sorry, I guess. I just wouldn't think anyone who's younger than most of us would really absorb all the plot and stuff, but I'm wrong there, evidently.

Keep in mind that Akira Toriyama has tried to kill the Dragonball/Dragonball Z/Dragonball GT several times, and STILL the fans want more. Poor guy, locked in a dead-end contract....at least he has job security.
Anywho, it probably partly had to do with Harry Champ's voice actor playing the part of Amuro.

My friend if Florida kinda tries to defend DBZ by saying that there is something of a plot, and it's just the dubbing and editing that killed it here, but I can't honestly imagine it's any better in Japan.

He thinks Harry Champ is annoying. Actually, I never realized that Amuro was voiced by the same VA as Champ. I knew that the VA for Quatre voiced Amuro though.
