Mechabonica, Messengers to Space
The Mechabonica series (derived from the phrase 'mechanical bones') was the first ever incarnation of Zoids to be produced and went on sale in 1981. Sadly, the series did very poorly and was discontinued after only three models had been issued.
However, a year later, the line was re-released under the name 'Zoids' and proved very popular - the rest, as they say, is history.
